Our church, like so many, has been discussing freedom for the past few weeks. Freedom, not just in relation to our freedom on this Earth (physically) but our spiritual Freedom. Last Sunday, Steve Brown spoke. Have you ever listened to him on the radio, heard him preach or read one of his books? Some people like him….and some do not. I’m not sure many people are on the fence with Mr. Brown. He says some pretty provoking things…you know, the things you think, but you’re afraid to say. He truly gets down to the nuts and bolts of the fact…that we are all sinners. It was a great sermon….he spoke of Jesus and truly drove home the fact that true freedom is found in Christ….and ended the sermon with a question: What are you going to do with the freedom Christ has given you?
Yesterday, we had another visitng Pastor. He was an interesting young individual….and he spoke of Freedom, as well. His message spoke of seeking freedom in one area of our lives, only to become slaves in others…while thinking we are free. Example: the meth addict who turns to alcohol. The person is no longer using meth every day…but now, alcohol. His list of examples was long. But, his ending message is what impacted me the most….it was this.
The world offer us Freedom….only to discover, it’s a submersive slavery. One that deceives us….and takes over our lives before we realize it.
God offers us slavery….outright! Yet, we gain a submersive freedom!
:16 Do you not know htat if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, of of obedience which leads to righteousness?
So, to end this….I’m starting a Bible/Book study with some of the women on my street. We are going to read: A Scandalous Freedom by Steve Brown. I am so excited about reading this book…..I’m sure I’m going to read some things that will confuse me, excite me and may even tick me off a little….but Mr Brown always brings it back home to God.
So, which do you choose? Submersive Freedom or Slavery? Please note, this post contains affiliate links. See disclosure for full information
