This year, I attended two Homeschool Conferences. The GHEA and the Southeast Homeschool Conferences…both so different, but the faces are the ‘mostly’ the same.
I have to say…when I attended my first conference, I left…shaky! Seriously! So many people…knowing what they wanted, what to buy, what class to take. Me…I wandered aimlessly. I did not go with a friend and told my husband “I could handle it.” Hahaha….
So, now, we go together, or I find friends I can meet up with.
I find friends through twitter, Facebook and my blog…and arrange meet ups.
Last weekend, I worked at the SouthEast Homeschool Expo for Answers In Genesis. Let me rephrase that…I volunteered. It was one of the BEST experiences of my life. Spending time with friends and meeting new ones wanting to know the truth about God’s creation! Oh, it was amazing….and fun!
As I was walking around or at the booth, I would hear…”Are you in ____ Homeschool group? – I thought so,I recognize your name!” OR, I would hear “Are you Rebecca from Mom’s Mustard Seeds? – I recognize you from your picture.” Suddenly anonymity is a thing of the past as I grow more comfortable in this skin God has blessed me with…and I crawl out more and more every day. You see…deep down, I’m an introvert. Seriously.
But, my friends are pulling me out…and I want you to meet some of them!!
Linda: Aka – @prodoceo She worked at the AOP booth and is an absolute gem! I had no idea she was good friends with our friends from AiG. What an amazing world it is when people you know collide and God’s world is made small…yet beautiful and glorious at the same time! She has a beautiful blog at The Joyful Journey
OK, Left to right….
Kathy AKA- @kbalman – who has two of the cutest little ones I have ever seen. They are so incredibly sweet and cute, it was a pleasure eating lunch next to them and hearing about a special instrument they can play! Such a sweet and FUN family! She blogs at: Kathy’s Cluttered Mind
Stephanie: Aka – @brunettefoodie has the cutest little one…who spent lots of time with Mommy at the conference! If you’re looking for some yummy recipes….jump over to her blog. BUT, be WARNED…your mouth will water! She blogs at The Brunette Foodie
Next- that’s me
And…on the far right that is
Alicia: Aka -@alfecia What can I say about Alicia….except that the day she came over to my home for coffee, I knew she would be someone special in my life….and God speaks through her to my heart…so often on her blog and now in person. She blogs at: Confessions Of a Snowflake
OK…you know who I am…the middle.
Left -> Abi AKA – @QuaverMusic from Quaver Music.com ! I am SO in love with their program and did you know, they launched a free area on their site this week your children can play and have some fun learning! (hope I spelled your name right, sorry!)
This is sweet Katie – AKA – @ktmae1229 She dropped by the AiG table…about the time I hit a huge brick wall. You know the one I’m talking about…where you’re so exhausted you can’t think. So, I forgot to get a picture or a hug. YES, I’m one of those crazy southern people…who hugs everyone. Katie is such a sweetie and I love tweeting with her! I can’t wait until she has a blog! When you meet her…you’ll know what I mean…she is just, well, sweet to be around!
Last, but not least. This was the night after the conference. Yes, that’s my hubby in the Orange/blue shirt! He finally made it! This was the way he celebrated his birthday…working at AiG and spending time with our friends. The man behind us…hahaha….He is the amazing Mr. Steve Demme from Math U See! I felt like a little school girl next to these two men. Mr. Demme is an amazing man-with a great sense of humor and a wonderful love of God!!
OK…that’s it. I met a TON of people. I talked a LOT. My little world exploded…and my introverted self became an extrovert for 72 hours of complete and utter joy…serving others and helping share the truth through Answers In Genesis
I hope to meet everyone who reads my blog…and whose blogs I read…or tweet with. Not to mention all of my homeschool buddies around the nation and some…in distant countries! You are all making a difference…..be blessed…and be a Blessing!
