Can you imagine being young again….sitting in class and always getting into trouble for day dreaming?
That’s Ellie’s problem. She is in fourth grade and spends a lot of time daydreaming about owning a black stallion show horse…not just owning one, but actually winning tropies with her beautiful horse.
Ellie’s daydreaming…finally lands her in trouble. She’s sitting in class one day..and really thinks she sees a horse outside. Her teacher is not very happy with her…and writes a note home to her parents. On the way home from school, one of her friends asks her about the note…and she doesnt’ know what to do. If that isn’t bad enough…she doesnt’ have many friends and the one that she has doesn’t want to be seen with her. Eventually, they part ways, and she arrives home.
At home, she sees that her Mom has not yet arrived…and her Dad is at the kitchen table worried over a ad/jingle he has to create. That keeps him preoccupied and Ellie is able to help her Dad….she is able to skirt the issue of the horse-daydreaming (note in her pocket) until her brother comes home and begins ‘signing’ to her asking her about the note. While her Father can’t hear her brothers fingers…he sees them and catches on. Her brother…feels bad about their Dad seeing his ‘signing’ to Ellie….and he tells her he will pray for her.
Just as he sits down to talk with Ellie, his boss calls…..and Ellie skirts the issue for a few minutes. After the usual afternoon comotion at anyone’s house…children coming to play, etc…Dad hangs up the phone and begins talking with Ellie about daydreaming….
Just as they were truly getting into their conversation…Ellie’s Mom arrives and has news about an animal that was dropped off at the rescue.. An animal out of nature to just be dropped off…andjust as she begins to describes it, Ellie does….it was the horse that Ellie ‘imagined’…and thus begins a horse chase through town.
Are Ellie’s dreams coming true? Is this horse, this amazingly skinny/gaunt horse the one she has been dreaming of? You’ll have to get it to read with your children and find out!
As for me, I am a Mom on a mission…a mission to find some good books that my sweet daughter will enjoy. She loves horses…loves daydreaming about them and we live in an area filled with equestrian farms.
I love that this book includes faith and the ability for my daughter to learn some sign language. I did not know if she was really paying attention until dinner a few nights ago….she signed THANK YOU to me….
I requested this book from Tyndale…and hoped it would be a big win.
It was…she has enjoyed reading
