Over the past three years, my heart has been pulled into love with Christ…not through friends…or just attending classes/reading/praying….but through true mentoring. I have had the opportunity to have several people walk with me through life and truly mentor me.
Sounds great, right….well, it can be hard. That means I have to be completely transparent…they have to know the good and well…that other stuff, too. It also means I have accountability.
Shelley has set up a beautiful program built around her book The Companion Guide to Beautiful Girlhood…and I really can not begin to tell you how much I appreciate this.
I was blessed to hear Shelley speak almost three years ago at a Homeschool Conference. It was my first conference…the end of our first year and I really needed some refreshing words to continue…to pick up the books again and just to inspire me. And…Shelley did just that. Not only during her seminar, but also at her booth. She did not push me to purchase her books and even mentioned that my daughter was a little young….
Here I am, now, with her beautiful Companion Guide in my hands…and spending precious moments with my sweet girl.
When I was growing up, My Mom worked…and my parents were divorced… So, when I say my Mom worked…I mean 2 and even 3 jobs at a time. That meant I was either at work with her, at home alone…or at my own Job(s)…I worked two jobs all through highschool. So..mentoring was foreign to me..something I desired, but needed to learn.
Shelley’s Companion Guide to Beuaitufl Girlhood has given me a fantastic tool to fill that void and is written so well that the chapters are named the same and each word, each verse completely compliments Beautiful Girlhood!
Each chapter opens with a beautiful quote that compliments the name of the chapter, both at the beginning and end of each chapter
After the quote, Shelley has broken the chapters down into:
- Discussion questions that help you, the Mom remember your child hood
- Helps identify things your daughter needs to do or think about pertaining to that chapter
- Just really great questions to help you discuss and identify what your daughter learned from the chapter
- Bible Activities and Applications
- Bible Verses to discuss and record
- Activities to go along with the verses/chapter
- The activities may be something you do with your daughter or perhaps something that requires a family member to help you with.
- Journal Topics along with pages provided to journal in. (No need to run out and buy another journal/book…Shelley has provided you with that ability.
So, for 32 weeks, you can sit down, read the Beautiful Girlhood book with your daughter…and then, find practical ways of implementing good, Biblical mentoring into that time and going forward with your daughter through practical wisdom in The Companion Guide to Beautiful Girlhood. I can see me working through this companion guide multiple times with my daughter as she grows….it is recommended for girls age: 9-13. And then….Shelley has another book….I’ll share that one with you next week: Beyond Beautiful Girlhood!!!
As I mentioned, we are reading it in unison with B’Twixt and B’tween. This was our first week…and it has truly meant a lot to my daughter and to me…. We have established Monday afternoon as our special time to sit and read. The boys are out playing…she and I sit, read and enjoy tea in her Grandmother’s tea set….
Thank you for taking time to read through this…I pray that if you don’t already have something special set up with your daughter, a special time set aside to mentor her…that this may give you the courage and tools you need to do so!
