We are counting down the days of ‘official Homeschool’ for 2011-2012
I can’t believe it!
While we school year round (for the most part) there is something about having the freedom of not ‘counting hours/days’ that have to be submitted.
as of today, we have 16 days to go.
We have not finished all of our curriculum and you know what, I’m ok with that. We’ll plug along and accomplish what we need, as we need to.
This year, has been full of change for all of us.
I have witnessed a huge transformation this year n myself and my children.
When we began homeschooling, I had to sit with my daughter and literally hold her hand and watch as tears rolled down her cheeks when she was trying to understand a math problem or any other topic.
This year, when I would see the anxiety begin, I would put the subject away and quickly grab something I knew she would enjoy and could learn from (even if that meant me reading aloud and giving her a chance to sit back/play with a doll while she listened).
That change of pushing aside and allowing her to relax has paid off.
This week, I sat with her at the kitchen table, explained her math to her and began working with my little guy on a project.
When I looked over, I noticed something I would have missed had my eyes not been open.
she was working on a word problem
she was not crying
her face was not red
she was actually……at peace…
and this week the one in which I sat the camera/phone down more I grabbed it
and snapped a quick picture…..
It is one I will cherish most.
I am thankful for the ability to homeschool and not push my children in areas they are not ready for yet….but then to have the wisdom to know when to place it back in front of them, encourage them and not tear them down.
While we are busy finishing some of our work, we are still enjoying our nature journals and art club. Yesterday, I taught the children at Art club we made our iridescent glue Easter Eggs and I taught them how to draw a Dogwood flower using chalk pastels.
I wish I could report that all three of our eggs are drying and will be ready for display tomorrow Alas, I can not. They met a basketball. Not just once, but twice. And I am so thankful for seat covers I had placed in the back of my van. I’m not sure the food coloring used to color them would come out of the carpet! BUT,I did get a picture, and we can do it again….
After all, no use crying over spilled
How was your week? What Moments do you remember the most?
