Our Week Was An Adventure

September 7 Mothers Journal

In my life this week…

This week…flew by, yet I was alive in each moment that happened.  The children and I spent a lot of time staring out our back window at the beautiful fawn, woodpeckers and hummingbirds that have graced our foliage.  The picture in the bottom middle does not do justice to those two sweet babies that visit my back yard like clock-work…I could literally set my clock by them.

We had a great time at the Braves game last Saturday….and enjoyed the beautiful Blue Moon (did you see it?)

In our homeschool this week…

My kiddies spent every day working HARD and I mean HARD – but, it was also fun.  My little guy woke up last Saturday reminding me he wanted to finish something in his Swimming Creatures – and he wanted to start his ocean box.  So….we found a box and I painted it blue…it’s sitting in the living room…waiting for his first sea creature…I can’t wait to see what he creates.

My sweet girl and her little brother enjoyed painting this week and my big guy began violin.  I would say that my daughter and I started piano…however, I had my days mixed up for lessons…and we missed it.  Well, there’s always next week.

We enjoyed the ‘blue moon’ over the weekend…and we just really had a week…that really helped me understand and learn more about all of my children.

Now, it’s time for this Mama to make some adjustments to our school….

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…

If you miss something, overschedule, underschedule…just flat out miss something…it really is ok.  If I had missed a piano class three years ago, I would have been so upset with myself.  Now, I can sit back and say “Well…there’s always next week…” and remind myself to be more diligent in checking our schedule.  Set the example by learning from mistakes…

Questions/thoughts I have…

This week, our GeoMatters Nature/Science introduced the Periodic table.  I did not enjoy chemistry…nor did I ever want to see this chart, let alone teach it (after my dreadful experience in highschool).  So, when I realized I would be teaching it this week, I put on my Big Mama Homeschool Pants…and took a breath, put on a smile and my son….just absolutely fell in love.  HE COULD NOT GET ENOUGH!  He definitely gets this from his Dad and his great, great, great, great great (you get the picture) cousin – Isaac Newton.  So, my question is this…..why didn’t those genes hit this pea brain?  That’s just not how God created me…and I pray to Him daily that He provides me with the stamina to keep up with this one….I believe I will have him teach me his highschool subjects.  A friend of mine had her son do that….have you ever considered allowing your children to teach for a day?

I’m cooking…

YUMMY Potato soup!  Next week, I’m sharing popped wheat berries!

I’m praying for…

The many people who email and message me with prayer requests……for our nation…

How was your week?

I’m so glad I’m not the only mom who has missed appointments lately! We kind of got to see the blue moon…it was cloudy here. We knew it was there though! Looks like you had a very memorable week!

  2. We had a Popcorn Date and went out to a big pond to photograph the moon and see it for all that it was. It was magnificent! It was the first time I had ever seen the “man in the moon”. I have learned that when I schedule too many things in a week I am bound to miss something. My mind can’t keep track of everything! I enjoyed your picture collage. How sweet is that baby deer?! Have a wonderful weekend!

  3. Yep! My girl missed her first clarinet lesson this week so that we could be home for the delivery of our kayaks (which required a signature). I didn’t forget, but we made a choice. Sometimes you just gotta! ::wink:: There IS always next week!

Wow! Love the white board! And look at that work! He did awesome! The kids love teaching ME something! They think it’s really neat to be an “expert” in something. Great for learning AND confidence!

    • I had my days mixed up – and it was a blessing….we had some good discussions in our home during that ‘piano lesson’ time….God is so good, isn’t he?!

  4. Wow, I am so completely impressed with your son’s work with the periodic table. It wasn’t one of my favorite memories from high school, either. :-)

So glad you had a wonderful week and that the Lord gave you His peace and strength (and sense of calm– way to go on not being upset with missing the lesson. I still need to work on my definite weaknesses in areas like that)

Much love to you! Have a great weekend.
