What Is an Ultimate Mom?
Last weekend I was blessed to be surrounded by Ultimate Moms. They were walking aisles looking for the perfect curriculum, smiling and laughing with their children, holding hands with their husband and several (me included) were shedding a few tears as God worked on our hearts to grow us into the Ultimate Moms he created us to be. It was beautiful to sit with my friends I have met online and a few I have been blessed to meet in person.
It was also very humbling.
As I was walking the halls, a few of you stopped me in my sprint from one place to another. You stopped me and told me how my words here encourage you. I can’t begin to tell you how much that meant to me. It’s not easy writing my life out loud for the world to see. You only see a glimpse of my life. You don’t see all – because I have to maintain some safety for my family, but I try to be as real as humanly possible. And I’ll let you in on a little secret. I’ve been in mid-thought recently about whether or not I should consider continuing Mom’s Mustard Seeds. So your words, your encouragement – they meant more than you may ever know. They also urged me forward and made me decide it’s time to truly share more about this heart that has been hurt, has hurt, but God has taken, turned upside down and redeemed.
So, for all of you Moms out there who walked those halls or try to sit back in the corner because you’ve made mistakes and you just want someone to notice that you are a life on a journey changing and becoming – you – are the Ultimate Mom this week. You, like me are not perfect and maybe go through a whole day without getting it right…but you keep praying, pushing, reading and seeking that moment when you know God is doing a work in you. Yes, you are an Ultimate Mom!
This week, I have selected Montessori Inspired Screen Free Activities! I love Deb’s ideas and really want to encourage all families to TURN off electronics and televisions and spend time growing your relationships. So, please give Deb a visit and tell her I sent you! I know you will be blessed by her site and this post.
Ultimate Mom Moment
Have you ever had one of those days (or weeks) where you could not do anything right? No matter what you said (or wrote) it was completely misconstrued? Yeah – I think we all have those moments. This past year, I have been blessed by some amazing friends who have truly shared with me the Biblical way of working through a problem. If it’s a sister/brother in Christ – approaching them in a loving manner and discussing. Then, if need be, calling on a friend to help with the resolution/reconciliation. I’m still not perfect with this, but have witnessed amazing friendships grow. I have also witnessed and seen what’s it like when I don’t do this. And I can tell you that I am a recovering gossip. I never knew this was a sin until about three year ago. So, now when I see it or even think it happens, I want to shrivel up and run away.
This week, when I was in the midst of someone misunderstanding something I wrote, I was quite frustrated, mad and hurt. Part of me wanted to do what the old me would have done. But, I decided to pray and call my husband. In the midst of this I had another heart hurt. It was a situation where my feelings had been hurt and I had not handled it well. I had to be brave and own my inability to ‘do the right thing’. It was hard. It was all hard and all on the same day. In both situations, I saw where I still have a lot of growing to do. So, I truly began praying that God would help heal my heart more so that I can be the person I long to be….
While I was going through both of these situations, I received an email from my church. We receive updates and encouragement during the week and this one – was timed perfect. It was like a little reminder from God. A reminder that tells me he sees me – He knows my mistakes and He is going to walk me through them, I just have to be obedient. I want to share it with you (and i really hope my Pastor doesn’t mind)
“Every Christian faces hard days filled with challenging situations, decisions, and relationships. These are the times, not to give up and act out, but to dig in and call out. Call out to the Lord. Call out to friends who will stand by your side and pray with you. Commit to being who God has called you to be, a follower of Jesus, and resist the world’s temptation to abandon following His ways. Live like Jesus and be the follower He calls you to be” CCMA newsletter
So, that was my ultimate mom moment. Moments filled with misunderstanding and failure. But, by identifying that and turning to God instead of the way I would have a year ago, I know I am growing and the road ahead is possible with God leading me.
