It’s so easy to get caught up in the things we think we need when homeschooling. I remember several years ago, I found myself in a heap of tears because I wasn’t on schedule, we weren’t going to finish all of our curriculum by the end of the year and I felt like an absolute failure. Have you ever been there?
But, God is so gracious. He has shown up in ways I never imagined. I want to share two of those ways and a wonderful podcast I recently taped with Karen from Simply Living For Him and Bible Based Homeschooling. I know this podcast will help you as you wrap up this school year and prepare for a new one.
Not My Schedule
Example 1: This past year, we were wrapping up book number 4 in the Who Is God series from Apologia. We weren’t on a schedule. I gave up on that (with this series) last year, but my family and I witnessed God sharing His schedule with us in this fourth year on two occasions. The first was when we had a missions weekend at church. One of the Pastors speaking was from Africa and he mentioned his favorite food was Chapati. Would you know that we were beginning the lessons on Africa that week and the food being discussed was chapati?!
Example 2: A few weeks ago, I realized I had not covered Pi with our oldest. Well, he has been working through some curriculum he did not finish last year (for math) and his lesson this week was on Pi. In addition, he is reading Swiss Family Robinson and came upon the chapter discussing Pi. But that wasn’t all. My little guy finished his math curriculum early so I wanted to read some living math books we had with him. One of those was on Pi! I could not have planned all of that… It was amazing.
