A few days ago, I was driving down the road and I was absolutely exhausted not not giving thanks. My mind was going a thousand miles a minute, traffic was horrible (which it always is where we live) and the flood gates were about to let loose in my eyes.
I knew I was too tired. I also knew I had a bad attitude
So, I did what I’m learning to do: I had a little talk with God.
I told him that I was not very happy with the way things were going and I was sorry for my attitude. I explained that I knew, without a doubt, that he was in the mix of everything going on and that eventually the problems we have now would work out and prepare us to help others (and for anything else around the bend) BUT I was really really really tired of life at the moment.
As I talked and talked, I began thinking “I REALLY need to change my attitude.”
As I sat thinking, I remembered that many years ago I picked a life verse. It’s a verse many people pick.
I think a lot of people pick it because everyone needs a verse like this in a world that is well….not perfect.
So, I started saying it over and over and over in my mind. I even began thinking about a song the children and I learned a few years ago with the words.
And you know all of that talking (ahem – complaining) I was doing to God….it was replaced with his truth and peace.
What’s my verse?
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Phil 4:6-7
In reality, I have not been giving thanks but I have been complaining. I have been worrying and anxious, rather than knowing that God is with me and will guide me.
So, I decided it was time to pull out a Thanksgiving Journal I wrote, dust the cobwebs off, make it pretty and start giving thanks.
