We did it! We saw the amazing transformation of the Painted lady butterly….they all lived and made it. The journey began….during a weekend trip with some amazing women to the Highlands in NC. We ventured out for some window shopping….and the little Toy Store there….had my number! I found my butterfly kit! Here they are……our little caterpillars….. Those little guys were so cute roaming around….and as they climbed to the top, we knew the time was at hand, for them to disappear into their crysalis. One by one, they slowly ‘lost their head’…..amazing, that a creature can lose it’s head….and remain alive (call me crazy…I see that as another miracle of creation, not a methodology pointing to something happening from nothing without a purpose/plan!). As they covered themselves with their blankets….some roamed around and really upset the ones who were already in the process of changing….it was a little funny to watch the big caterpillars roam over a crysalis and the crysalis begin to shake and move all around……
So…..once they were all in their nice warm blankets….we held our breath and put them in the butterfly net. They were all save and sound….except one decided to hang upside down….or down side up….we were afraid he would not make it….but, he did….he was the last to hatch….but his wings did not develop and my daughter has now devoted her life to providing nectar to him every day! The rest….we set free……..
And then….we celebrated by making lap books!
And as we finished our lap books….this little guy climbed on our old oxygen tank bell. After searching around the internet for a while, I discovered it is a Tussock Moth!
