We began our homeschool journey last school year….and it’s been a year of change and growth in our home. Words can truly not express or explain the changes that have taken place in our home and in our hearts.
So many people still think of homeschool families as being odd….or as homeschool Moms as having the ‘patience of Job’. I used to think that way. I remember when I was growing up….a family down the street homeschool’d. I never understood it…and did not want to. Once we had children, we discussed it….but, we started going to a church Preschool and getting caught up in how quickly our children could be pushed to learn something and we spent several years running and running….running ragged. There was very little peace in our home and we continued to spiral back to behavior issues…..now, we see those as heart problems that our children need to take before our Heavenly Father, with us guiding them to His feet. Not in guilt, but in love and reverence, as we seek to be like Him…loving and caring and less selfish. That is not to say that families who choose public school, private school or charter schools are not accomplishing the same. Many are….just like homeschool…everyone has their good/bad days. We are fallen people in a fallen world. We are all yearning for the day we can see our savior and feel his loving arms wrap around us. I have learned not to put anyone on a pedastool….and to make sure no one attempts to put me there…I don’t deserve it!
So, the kids and I actually finished ‘school’ the first week of May. But, today, we met with our homeschool group to pick up and sign our year book….and spend some time playing in water/sand….and chatting
We have been reading this summer and I wanted to give a glimpse into the books we’re reading. We are working on ‘character’ this summer and getting back to basic understanding of our nation and it’s founders!
