A few weeks ago, my children and I spent a few days in North Carolina with my family. it was a fun trip….and I learned something about my youngest. He is just like his Daddy!
You see…when my husband was a little bit older than our son, he found a snake…while he was on vacation with his parents in Maine. When they were leaving, his Mom let him take it with him. Somewhere along the way, the snake…could not be found. It was ‘free’ in the car.
So…what does this have to do with our youngest? Well, while we were in North Carolina…he spent quite a bit of time playing in my brother’s yard and having fun on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. That evening, we enjoyed some fun times, laughter…and the next morning, we were blessed to attend church with my brother…the very same church my husband received Christ in. After church, we went to lunch…and then, it was time to pile back in the car to head to my Dad’s and begin our trip back home.
As my brother was helping me get the kiddies in the car, I heard my daughter say “Joey, how long has he been in here?” OK….that caught my attention. I very quickly asked what they were talking about…..and you know what it was. It was a lizard. He could not part from his little friend… So, when it was time to come in for the evening, he went out to the car, found a styrofoam cup (from lunch out at a restaurant), poked holes in and placed his little friend in there…
So, we left the restaurant parking lot, made a B-line to the store and purchased a little home for the little guy. He spent two weeks with us and during that time, my little guy and sweet daughter made some fun ‘rooms’ out of boxes for him to ‘play’ in. Here is the smallest one…I think it’s really cute, what do you think??
My little guy had some much fun with his little green friend…and of course, I took advantage of the opportunity and we spent a few days doing some journaling / drawing in our nature journals…and learning from one of our new favorite books: World Of Animals…. Check out these pictures the little guy and his sister drew. They are both still working on their writing and spelling…and we’ll get there. Right now, I’m just focused on helping them fall in love with learning in any way I possibly can!
The little guy is now hanging out somewhere around our home…or has gone somewhere else. It took a little while for my sweet boy to let him go, but he enjoyed caring for him and playing with him. shortly after he let “Lizzy” go…he found two HUGE toads…who lived in “Lizzy’s” home for a day….now, there are two ladybugs. My other children have shown an interest in bugs and creatures…but not like this little guy.
Tomorrow…will be another adventure as we peruse our yard and neighborhood…after I ask…my question of the day: What do you want to learn about today? We are blessed to have many books at our disposal….and a warm home. Most of all…we are blessed to share a new love of learning…
So, What are you learning? Do you have any little creatures in your home? Share with us…over at the Hip Homeschool Hop
